Juvenile delinquency known as juvenile offending or youth crime is participation in illegal behavior by minors.
Criminal defendants who haven’t quite reached the age of majority (18 in most states) go through a different criminal justice system than the one most people are familiar with.

Juveniles commit “delinquent acts” not “crimes,” and juvenile offenders have “adjudication hearings” not “trials.” The punishment of juvenile offenders also differs significantly from the punishment of adult criminals. The purpose of an adult sentence is to PUNISH, when the purpose of a juvenile sentence is primarily to REHABILITATE the juvenile so that he can go on to live a productive adult life.

The juvenile justice system is much different than the adult system and you need a lawyer who can give your child the best chances of success throughout the complex legal process.
If your kid is facing a criminal charge or is accused of some wrongdoing – here is WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW to be able to help your child:
- If your child commits a crime as a juvenile, that crime may stay on their record the rest of his or her life. It may affect school, employment and many other opportunities.
- Depending on the “severity of the crime”, the following circumstances can determine whether or not the state can charge your child as an adult: Image may be NSFW.

Other crimes such as underage drinking, underage DUI, and using a fake ID are naturally associated with minors.
- Officers will look at the attitude of the offender. If they are truly sorry for what they
have done and have never been in trouble with the law before, they are less likely to receive formal charges. - If the evidence of wrongdoing is weak and the minor is represented by a qualified attorney, the charges could simply be dropped.
